Trading FacesT.M. Film School  launched it's first course in May 2006 for teenagers. The programme proved to be a great success. Each year the course grew in popularity and since 2008 the course is offered to both senior and junior students. Film students have successfully screened their shorts as finalists in both the Galway Junior Film Fleadh and Fresh Film Festival in Limerick.

Course Breakdown

This course focuses upon acting and making a short film on a shoe string budget!  AND it's Lot's of fun !
Designed as an introductory course, suitable for beginners, the participants collaborate to create, film and produce a short.
Becoming the actors; directors; writers; camera and sound people  - the short film is created!

This programme is a practical, hands on course, that allows the actors the opportunity to experience the business of film making from both 'in front of' and 'behind' the camera.

Acting for screen
Highlighting techniques used, through a series of exercises and games.

Establishing differences between SCREEN and STAGE  and VOICE OVER. Using films scripts and cameras, actors will experience the buzz  that is show biz!

Opportunity to explore audition techniques that will give you the edge.

Maureen Hughes -  Casting Director (Raw; Love/Hate; Single Handed; Jack Taylor & Druid productions too numberous to mention) will give a master class, sharing tips, with the inside view on auditions.

An understanding of what constitutes a good resume and headshots

As with any adventure, preparation is key.

An ability to Cold Read and play to the camera.    Show reel explored.


Some actors are seriously interested in directing projects!                                                                    

Working with an EXPERIENCED  DIRECTOR the actor learns

  • Direction basics - working with actors; working with crew - crew roles; assistant direction.
  • Directing improvisational techniques; from script to screen; scene direction; conflict resolution.
  • Creating calm and trusting your instinct!

Script writing

Brainstorming, choosing main plot and theme, dramatic structure, character structure, writing scenes, writing dialogue, use of voiceover as narration or thought track through to finished script.


Students, with the use of PROFESSIONAL COMMERCIAL CAMERAS learn how to film scene by scene.

General tips of the trade:

CAMERA & SOUND MAN from the industry will outline means of getting the best from available locations, light, camera.
